W Shaped Period of Economic Performance, says Jeff Thredgold
September 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment
Looking to bring in a presenter to speak on the current state of the economy?
Speaker Jeff Thredgold will bring your group up-to-the-minute perspective on where things stand in the U.S. economy, and where the economy might stand six, 12, or 18 months from now. His presentations are not flashy or filled with multimedia. “It’s just a microphone and me,” says Thredgold. “And I’m pretty easy to see, since I’m six-foot-five.”
Thredgold’s not a motivational speaker. He brings strong, accessible, and factual presentations about current events that affect markets and the economy. Along with talking about the global economy, tight labor markets, and financial institutions, Thredgold also has a presentation that covers the “Top 10 Myths Reported by the National Media.”
Including NAIFA, he has talked to a mind-boggling 1,000 plus groups in 48 states since 1988. Thredgold spent 23 years with banking titan KeyCorp, serves as an economic consultant to $50 billion Zions Bancorporation, and is a former member of the Economic Policy Committee of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the American Bankers Association.
And despite such heady involvement in those organizations, Thredgold is one of the only economists to earn the Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation.
So, what his latest take? Check out his tea leaf bulletin:
The U.S. Economy…the big “W”
The current period of U.S. economic volatility seems likely to continue in coming quarters. A “W”-shaped period of economic performance seems underway. The official “scorekeeper” of the U.S. economy, the National Bureau of Economic Research, has remained silent to this point in regard to recession. In our view, an announcement that a recession likely started around the end of 2007 could come at any time.

94th Annual ICMA Conference
August 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment
Convention Connection Speakers Bureau has booked keynote speakers Frans Johansson, Cokie Roberts and Michael Beschloss for the 94th Annual ICMA Conference at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, Virginia. “Celebrating Our Past—Preparing for Our Future” is the theme for this year’s ICMA Annual Conference, the largest annual event in the world for local government managers and staff. The conference will run from September 21-24, 2008.
Frans Johansson is author of The Medici Effect and a speaker on innovation. A successful entrepreneur who co-founded (while under 30 years old) two businesses in the U.S. and Sweden, Frans uses the intersections in his life to innovate. The Medici Effect has been translated into 17 languages and has been recognized on numerous lists as a top business book. Johansson argues that innovations occur when people see beyond their expertise and approach situations actively, with an eye toward putting available materials together in new combinations. Because of ions, “the movement of people, the convergence of science, and the leap of computation,” a wide range of materials available for new, recontextualized uses is becoming a norm rather than an exception, much as the Medici family of Renaissance Italy’s patronage helped develop European arts and culture.
Cokie Roberts has covered Congress, politics and public policy for nearly 20 years at ABC News. In addition to her responsibilities at ABC, Ms. Roberts serves as Senior News Analyst for National Public Radio, where she was the Congressional Correspondent for more than ten years. She is the recipient of numerous broadcasting awards, including three Emmys. She has been inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame, and was cited by the American Women in Radio and Television as “One of the 50 Greatest Women in the History of Broadcasting.”
Michael Beschloss has written nine books on American Presidents. The New York Times Book Review has called him “clearly the most widely recognized Presidential historian in the nation.” Newsweek has called him “the nation’s leading Presidential historian.” The International Herald Tribune has called him “a national treasure.” Beschloss’ most recent two books, Presidential Courage (2007) and The Conquerors (2002), were each on the New York Times bestseller list for months.
Convention Connection is a full-service speakers bureau based in Malibu, CA with over 25 years of experience booking motivational speakers, entertainers, and teambuilding for corporate and association clients. Motivational Speaker Videos
August 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment
One of the best ways to recommend a guest speaker to your team is if you’ve seen him or her live and in person at an event. But if you can’t bring your entire decision making group back in time to see the speech that wowed you, a speaker video is key for presenting the best presentation the keynoter has to offer your group. And if you’re considering multiple speakers, contacting your speakers bureau rep is the best way to put together a customized list of video links or to have a DVD sent to the decision maker in question.
By the way, speakers often offer a variety of topics, but only one standard video on their website or their bureaus’ site- but you can always ask for a custom copy of a speech that might not be online. And many speakers only offer short clips online, but again, a request to your bureau is all it takes to receive a full-length preview video of your speaker choices.
We now have more than 100 speaker preview videos, most of which are in fact full-length preview videos, which can be linked to directly from our website at http://www.conventionconnection.net. If you’d like a customized reel of the speakers of interest to your meeting planning team, please let us know.
Almost every speaker has a preview video except in rare instances, so if you don’t see the video you’re looking for online, please contact us.
And we’re working on our youtube website as well, which you can find at http://www.youtube.com/user/conventionconnection.
