Yesterday I attended the monthly meeting of MPI SCC (Southern California Chapter of Meeting Professionals) at the lovely Sofitel Hotel in Los Angeles. I went to preview Troy Evans, an ex-con and a motivational speaker. His talk, despite centering primarily around lessons from his time in prison (he demonstrated two to three creative prison weapons- which generated a fun post-talk query about how he gets his props through security!), was extremely upbeat and positive and…inspirational. He talked about the importance of time- and how one learns that in prison every moment really is precious. He discussed limitations; after all, if he could earn two degrees behind bars, what’s to stop us from accomplishing our goals when we’re out here?
